Paine in the Park

When skateboarding was banned from Love Park... it didn't really change much. Walking through the other day, we caught a couple of guys on boards jumping off one of the high planters, and wondered if they knew about the ban (a surprising number of people don't, but a bigger number just don't care), or about the very cool Paine's Park Project.

The Paine's Park Project is a 2.5-acre skatepark, originally commissioned by Mayor Street in 2003. It will be the city's first park of its kind, and one of the first in the States. It's getting ready to open, but funds still need raising, and you can help. Our pals at Philebrity are helping to sponsor a party, Paine's World (get it?!), that should help the skatepark get that much closer to its goal.

If you want to help, whether because you're a skater or because you just want the skaters to stay away from the nice new patio at the Comcast Center, twenty bucks will get you access to tomorrow's kick-ass party at Urban Outfitters' headquarters in the Naval Yard, complete with DJs, skating demo, and food and drink. Shuttles will be running back and forth from Center City, so you don't even have to worry about getting your drunk ass home from South Philly when the party's over.

Because as stupid as drinking and driving is, drinking and skating is just a recipe for disaster.

Paine's World
The Urban Outfitters Facility at the Naval Yard (5102 S. 16th Street, Building 543)
Shuttles departing from Center City every thirty minutes
Saturday, June 28, 9PM-1AM
Tickets: $22 online/ $20 at the Urban Outfitters locations in Rittenhouse and University City
