Kimmel Center Summer Solstice Celebration

Kimmel Center

Ever thought you would spend the night at the Kimmel Center? Take part in an event, which under normal circumstances, would never happen. It’s the annual all-day, all-night celebration known as the Kimmel Center's Summer Solstice Celebration, commemorating the longest day of the year. Featuring games, music (classical, jazz, and pop), dance performances, and even a drag show, it begins at 3 pm on Saturday and runs until dawn on Sunday. It’s $10 for adults, and $5 for children 12 and under.

It all starts with the InLiquid: Art for the Cash Poor outdoor art show and sale featuring photographs, paintings, jewelry, and more. Better yet, all items are priced under $200. Other highlights include:

Yoga Sun Salutation on Spruce Street—Show off your best downward facing dog.

Zoo on Wheels with help from the Philadelphia Zoo.

This Phillyist definitely wants to check-out Gamervision Wii Bowling. It runs until 11 pm. There’s also a Guitar Hero III Tournament at midnight.

Bob & Barbara’s Drag Show: Something everyone should experience.

There’s even an event for parents and kids: Baby Loves Disco features 70s and 80s disco classics for toddlers, pre-schoolers, and parents.

Pros from the local arts world are on hand to answer your questions about the arts during Ask the Arts Pros. Panelists include the president and CEO of the Kimmel Center and the producing director of the Philadelphia Live Arts Festival & Philly Fringe.

Just in time for The Color Purple, members of the cast perform standard selections cabaret-style.

And believe it or not, DJ Spinderella (yes you read that right) of Salt N Pepa fame will be laying it down on the one’s and two’s.

There’s much, much more to see and do at this event. For a complete schedule, click here.
