It feels slightly ridiculous to preview tonight’s Pearl Jam show at the Susquehanna Bank Center. Um, it’s Pearl Jam. What can we say that you don’t already know? Some of you may have lost interest a decade ago, but there are those of us who love the band as dearly as the first day we heard “Jeremy.” The well received three-hour set at Bonnarroo Saturday night has reminded us that we are not alone in our obsession. Their trademarked mix of political consciousness and passionate performance is just as potent as it always was.
We hear that on this short tour Vedder and co. are trotting out everything from rarities only diehards have heard live to songs with lyrics that are embedded in your brain as deeply as your own name. They were the soundtrack for the early 90s, reminding us of what was important after we came off of a decade that thought in terms of “me” rather than “we.” If you listen, Pearl Jam is still reminding us of what matters most. Sounds good to us.
