Yo, Philly Down the Shore
This is the first in a series of articles featuring events happening “down the shore” this summer. From Atlantic City to Cape May, Phillyist helps keep you in the know. If you have an event that you’d like us to feature or have an idea for an article, email us. P.S. Don’t Forget to Wear Your Sunscreen.
The beaches are getting crowded. With most schools out, and the higher-than-average warm temperatures, there’s no place better to be than the beach. So, hop on the AC Expressway and let the freakin’ weekend begin.
Rosie O’Donnell, Cyndi Lauper, The B-52’s, and Deborah Cox—yes you heard that lineup right—will be at the Borgata tomorrow.
Unfortunately, James Taylor is sold out Saturday night at the Borgata. Maybe you have a hook up?
Skimmer Weekend Festival in Sea Isle City has all the elements of summer: food, live music, an antique auto show, and sand and sculpting demonstrations.
As if women weren’t self-conscious enough at the beach, the Miss New Jersey Pageant is at the Ocean City Boardwalk.
Cape May Music Festival is still going on until June 15.
Don a wide-brimmed hat and visit the Emlen Physick Estate in Cape May for a Victorian Fair.
Avalon is having a strawberry festival on Saturday.
There’s always a little Philly at the shore. In Wildwood, there’s the Mummers Parade Brigade starting at 2nd and Olde New Jersey Ave. on Saturday.
Third annual Wheelin’ the Wildwoods Bike Tour is on Sunday. Take dad for Father’s Day.
In other news, Wildwood celebrated the 60th anniversary of the tram car on Wednesday. Let’s say it all together—“Watch the tram car please.” The tram car celebrated by charging riders 10 cents all day. Just like they did on June 11, 1949.
