NEXUSselects: More Student Artwork

Art by Gerold MooneyWe can't help but be aware that Philadelphia is a city that really pays attention to its always growing crop of art students, and there always seems to be terrific exhibitions where the focus is on student work, such as the one that we mentioned last week currently taking place in Northern Liberties' Projects Gallery.

And yet another such exhibition is NEXUSselects, a juried competition for seniors graduating from the Philadelphia region. This exhibition "seeks out the best and most compelling young artists and at the same time illuminates the trends and styles emanating from our region's art schools."

For this exhibition, NEXUS member artists Blaine Siegel, Rebecca Gilbert, and Bilwa served as jurors along with curator Sean Stoops from Inliquid.com as well as NEXUS executive director Nick Cassway. The chosen students include: painter Anton Carlone from the University of the Arts; photographer Kelsey Fain from Drexel University; photographer Colin Leaman from Tyler School of Art; painter Gerold Mooney from University of the Arts; printmaker Amy Opsasnick from University of the Arts; photographer Amanda Ritter from Tyler School of Art; and printmaker Jessie Wolfrom from the University of the Arts. The exhibit, running through the end of the month, opens tonight.
