Can't Miss This

toad.jpgComedian Hal Sparks
If you don’t know him from Queer As Folk, you know him from the endless parade of clip shows on VH1… and if you don’t know him from there you don’t have cable, so clearly you need to have something fun to do tonight. Hal Sparks makes with the funny tonight, with Chris Bono and host Pat Barker, at Helium. Oh Hal, we will always fondly remember you belting out “I want to know what love is….” We’ll show you…
WHAT: Hal Sparks, with Chris Bono and Pat Barker
WHEN: 8PM
WHERE: Helium Comedy Club, 2031 Sansom
HOW MUCH: $15-25

Toad the Wet Sprocket at the Troc
Speaking of laughs, we had a few remembering what our hair looked like when Toad came onto the scene. After all these years they’re still one of our favorite bands, and we’ve even forgiven them for contributing to the Friends soundtrack… not that we’d have any way of knowing they’re on there. However, the chance of running into half our high school and some other unsavory characters from the past will keep us away from this one. Sigh.
WHAT: Toad the Wet Sprocket with Will Hoge
WHEN: 7PM
WHERE: Trocadero Theater, 1003 Arch
HOW MUCH: $26

Adapting Joyce’s Ulysses for Other Media
As they’re adapting it, do you think they’ll make it less obtuse, or does the process of trying to renew a work necessarily entail adding layers of complexity? We’d like to put forth that Ulysses is one work that could do without that treatment. Philadelphia artist Robert Berry will talk about the process and history of adapting the work; hopefully he’ll spend a good amount of time discussing his recently started webcomic adaptation. Webcomics we think we could handle.
WHAT: Adapting Joyce’s Ulysses for Other Media
WHEN: 5:30PM
WHERE: Rosenbach Museum and Library, 2008 Delancy Place
HOW MUCH: $5-8
