Can't Miss This!

Happy Swedish Flag Day!

airguitizzar.jpg2008 US AIR GUITAR CHAMPIONSHIPS
Okay, awesome, we love air guitar! The TLA, on South Street, surrounded by bars, braiding and bubble-gum trees. We're also down. BUT, what really forces writers like us to CAPS-lock the hell out of an innocent word like "but" is the presence at tonight's event of Tragedy, an "all metal Bee Gees tribute band." This fact elevates South Street, Friday night, and air guitar to a new and heretofore unexplored frontier of awesome. We're not exactly in love with metal, and we're not exactly wet for the Bee Gees, either. But, as one cartoon announcer once said, "when their powers combine..." This is a steal at $15, just to be able to say to your grandkids that you were there, you felt the rush of air from towering amps as disco and metal made sweet sweet love to one another and begat the most excellent bastard child rock and roll has ever known. Oh yeah, and there will be air guitar.
WHO: Anyone, 21+ to drink.
WHERE: The Fillmore at the TLA, 3rd and South Streets (map)
WHEN: 9pm
HOW MUCH: $15. Get 'em here.

THE N CROWD: DOUBLE FEATURE!
Yes, we're recycling, but there's a change in the air tonight for Philly's homegrown jokesters: a double feature. They will be splattering hilarity all over the faces of two crowds, an 8pm, right-after-dinner-crowd and a 10pm we're-wasted-let's-go-heckle-comedians crowd. Both promise to be dangerously humorous. So, boo yah to your grand mah.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Actors' Center, 257 N. 3rd Street (map)
WHEN: Once at 8pm, rinse and repeat at 10pm.
HOW MUCH: $10. Get 'em here.
Note: If you buy them online, RSVP-style, they will only be held until 7:50pm, then they're fair game for buy-em-at-the-door types.

FIRST ANNUAL PHILLY ZAPPA TRIBUTE FEST
An eclectic festival pays tribute to an eclectic musician tonight. It should be a lively and engaging evening, rife with potential for collaborations and improvisation. A perfect beginning to any University City resident's Friday night.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: World Cafe Live, 30th and Walnut Streets (map)
WHEN: 8pm
HOW MUCH: $10. Info and tickets here ($3 processing fee if bought online).
