Yo, Philly in the News

Rick's

  • At the risk of being labeled an asshole, we must pass on to you the news that Jocelyn Kirsch stole that credit card from a co-worker at Starbucks and used it to buy a candle and bed linens at Target. That's just sad. In other Bonnie and Clyde news, Edward K. Anderton has a 3PM hearing today at the federal courthouse in Center City, where he is expected to plead guilty to identity theft.
  • A man has been arrested in connection with the attack on a woman in a City Avenue motel room last week, and it's 19-year-old Joseph Vignola Jr., whom local television stations are reporting is the son of Joseph C. Vignola, a former city councilman and controller and well-known city political figure.
  • Operation Roadcheck begins tomorrow and runs through Thursday. During the program, Pennsylvania state and municipal police will stop commercial vehicles around-the-clock to inspect safety equipment and check drivers' licenses, endorsements and log books.
  • The controversy for CBS3 continues! Anchor Larry Mendte is now the focus of an FBI investigation, and will be kept off the air until the issue is resolved. The FBI says he opened former colleague Alycia Lane's private e-mail account hundreds of times over many months, and they're investigating whether he passed on gossip about Lane to the media. Mendte doesn't have that much to worry about, though; even in a worst case scenario, it's unlikely he'd go to jail.
  • Mayor Nutter has a news conference scheduled for 9:30AM this morning in City Hall where he's expected to make an announcement concerning the Department of Human Services.
  • Rick Olivieri's fight to keep his steak shop in Reading Terminal Market enters its last stage today with the beginning of the non-jury trial of combined lawsuits that Olivieri filed against market management and that management filed to evict Olivieri.

The bigger WTF is who in their right mind would hire the former host of Access Hollywood as a serious news anchor. Will they get Pat O'Brien to replace him?
