Whiz of the Web: Monday Meat Slices
by Sarah Gormley
The best of the internet, chopped into tiny bits and grilled for your enjoyment.

- Presenting the 2008 Maxim Hometown Hotties semi-finalists from PA. You can check out Nabila, Kimberly, Alexa, and Kayla and vote for your favorite. (via Tom)
- Though it’s similar to the last one, and grainy, this new trailer for Dark Knight is a favorite over at The Movie Blog.
- The blaze at Universal Studios on Sunday did a fair bit of damage on the back lot, including thousands of videos of Universal movies and tv shows and the town square from Back to the Future. Sniff.
- Wikipedia on lockdown at work? You could try something from this list of the 8 best non-Wikipedia pedias. We’re thinking Dickipedia could have saved us some major grief through the years. (via Wired)
- Get out your tinfoil hats: the latest images from the Phoenix Mars lander “reveal tantalising glimpses of what looks like frozen water.” Warren Ellis is all over it. (via BBC)
- Damn, and we fell for it: reports that Angelina added to her brood on Friday turn out to be totally false. No word on whether the mouthful-names are legit or not. (via Jezebel)
- Sex and the City beat out Indy at the box office this weekend. Something to do with “women power.” Gag us with a Manolo.
- Because we have these images permanently burned into our brains, so you should too: Warren Jeffs + bride(s). (via Smoking Gun)
- Wait, they can do that? Residents of North Oaks, a Minnesota town north east of Minneapolis, actually own the town’s roads, and got miffed that Google trespassed to get images for their Street View; they asked Google to remove the images and the company complied. Isn’t that nice of them.

I have to echo Lostpedia being an amazing site for wasting time. I will probably single-handedly get it placed on my office's firewall list.
And Indy got his ass kicked by a bunch of women? That's just sad...
Hey, wow... is that a double dose of sexism? Say it ain't so!
Heh, I didn't contextualize my disdain for the Manolos very well. I just think it odd that the media is talking about "women power" in terms of spending money on a movie, and describing the crowds as "frenzied" and whatnot. Didn't hear about all the men being frenzied over Indy... though I live with one that gets pretty frenzied over Iron Man...
Eh, spending power is just about the only kind that seems to count lately. I get what you're saying though, and it is annoying.
I probably shouldn't admit this in a public forum, but nestled deep in the recesses of my closet between $3 flip-flops and the same pair of Doc Martens I've been wearing since high school is most awesome pair of Manolos ever made... which I have worn exactly twice. So that's what--$250 per wearing? Spending power! Sigh...
Didn't the Back To the Future sets burn down once before?
