Geek Takeover of Philadelphia Will Commence in Five... Four...

Yep, it's Sand People all right. But I've never heard of them hitting anything this big before.

Woah, we almost forgot! It's Wizard World this weekend! Starting today and running through Sunday, June 1st, the convention for all things geeky will be taking over the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The guest of honor this year is superstar comic book artist J.G. Jones. Starbuck from Battlestar Galactica (known to inhabitants of the thirteenth colony as Katee Sackhoff) will be making an appearance. We doubt they will let you embrace her and tearfully tell her you know she's not a Cylon no matter what anybody says, but if you pay some money you can get autographs and photos with her. Also appearing are Lester Speight (the guy who does the voice of Augustus Cole in Gears of War), Beetlejuice from The Howard Stern Show, a number of wrestling stars, Max Brooks (the author of World War Z), legendary painter and illustrator Greg Hildebrandt, Fat Momma from Who Wants to Be a Superhero?, and the Hulk himself, Lou Ferrigno! And that's not to mention all the comic book stars, like Chris Claremont, Dan Didio, Garth Ennis, Joe Quesada, Alex Maleev, Peter David, Andy Kubert, Greg Pak, Duane Swierczynski, Brian Reed, and Dan Slott.

And if you don't like people (and really, who does?), there's plenty of fun events to enjoy, like the Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, and Dance Dance Revolution competitions (amongst many other gaming events); anime screenings; panels on movies, toys, and comic books; and the costume contest. And then of course there's all the dealers' booths and tables, where you can buy, or just stare longingly at, pretty much any kind of geeky merchandise imaginable: toys, comics, T-shirts, etc., many of them Wizard World exclusives. (The full programming guide, with dates, times, a map, and other details can be found here, in pdf form.)

If that doesn't sound like fun to you... well, we're not sure what to tell you. Excelsior!
