Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes
The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

- We love bacon and all, but the scratch 'n sniff bacon tuxedo takes things a couple dozen steps too far. (Via Sarah)
- Geeks, your list is here: the 11 Most Scorching-Hot Female Cosplayers Ever. (Via)
- Another casting call for Transformers 2 will be taking place this Saturday at Bullies Bar at the Spectrum.
- It's another "one photo a day for a year" project, but this one focuses on four LEGO clone troopers and their wacky adventures. Fun stuff. (Via)
- Members of the Russian Communist Party have called for a nationwide boycott of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, because it lies about history and aims to undermine Communism. Uh, they are aware that the American action film is never accurate about history or Communism, aren't they?
- Cinematical has highlights from "An Unexpected Party," a recent online chat with Peter Jackson and Guillermo del Toro about the upcoming Hobbit films. The movies will be shot back-to-back in 2010, with the first arriving December, 2011 and the second in December, 2012. They're planning on "an intense PG-13" rating for the films. We've been curious as to just what the second film will be about, and del Toro finally explains to a certain extent: "The idea is to find a compelling way to join The Hobbit and Fellowship and enhance the 5 films both visually an in their cosmology. There's omissions and material enough in the available, licensed material to attempt this. The agreement is, however, that the second film must be relevant and emotionally strong enough to be brought to life but that we must try and contain The Hobbit in a single film." Meanwhile, Christopher Tolkien, J.R.R. Tolkien's son, is still trying to stop the movies from being made. But... why?
- Talented director, actor, and producer Sydney Pollack died of stomach cancer yesterday. He was 73. People has excerpts from George Clooney's tribute to the man. Sadly, Pollack wasn't the only movie talent to die this holiday weekend; Robert Knox, an 18-year-old actor who was set to star in both of the next Harry Potter films (as Ravenclaw student Marcus Belby) was stabbed to death in a London pub brawl.
- Ouch! Sometimes Scott Meyer at Basic Instructions knows us too well.
- So, Uwe Boll is going to make a movie about the Darfur massacre, with all improvised dialogue. You can't make this stuff up, people.
- The Venture Bros. has launched a Shirt of the Week Club. You subscribe, and every week you get a crazy new T-shirt, specific to the latest episode of the show. After that week, the shirt will no longer be available, making it extremely geeky, extremely obscure, and extremely rare. If we had the extra cash lying around, we would definitely do this. (Via)
- You may have heard that we landed another probe on Mars, called the Phoenix. This one is digging around in the north polar region of the planet looking for ice and evidence of life. Check out the probe's official site on NASA here or follow its progress on Twitter (!) here (via). And while we're talking astronomy, check out some mind-blowing scale illustrations of planets and stars.
- Apparently there's a pornographic video series based on World of Warcraft called WhoreLore. Well, Game|Life reports that for their latest video they've turned to Age of Conan for inspiration and put together a porn parody of the game's first tutorial mission. In other WoW-related news, Blizzard finds it "extremely offensive" that a few of the people participating in the alpha testing for upcoming WoW expansion Wrath of the Lich King have posted classified information on the web. Uh, okay, we guess you can be offended, but please don't tell us you're surprised. Finally, if you really, really love your WoW character, why not send a screenshot to Mondolithic Studios and get yourself a portrait done up in oil paint?
- Check this out: the animated film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland remixed into a groovy music video.
- Here's a really cool behind-the-scenes video, starring various real-life rock and roll drummers, about the drum kit controller for Guitar Hero: World Tour. It's wireless! And the harder you hit the drums, the louder the note in the game. An early listing on GameStop's website has the price of the game alone as $59.99 on PS3 and 360 ($49.99 on Wii and PS2), the price of a guitar kit bundle as $99.99, and the price of the full band kit as $189.99 on 360, Wii and PS3, and $179.99 on PS2.
- Watchmen's comic-within-a-film Tales of the Black Freighter will be released as a DVD within days of the release of the movie.
- McG has made his first post to the production blog for Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, announcing that production has begun and offering a few details on how he plans to make the movie. (Via)
- A handful of kick-ass new clips from The Incredible Hulk have surfaced online, and Sci Fi Wire has details on a few more that were screened recently for reporters.
- Rumor has it that Street Fighter IV is headed to the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC (no Wii, again?!) this winter.
- Word is that the rising price of corn has begun to affect movie theater prices—at the concession stand, and at the ticket window.
- "Playboy magazine's Hugh Hefner is very interested in having Robert Downey Jr. play him in an upcoming biopic after watching the actor shine on screen in Iron Man." Hey, what about Stan Lee?

The bacon tux was an April Fools Day joke, but seriously--if they made a bacon dress I would wear it to a black-tie event. Of course, I'd probably get attacked by a pack of dogs en route, but that's the risk you take for fashion... I mean, bacon.
