Philadelphia may not be perfect, but on the whole, we're a city full of big-hearted people willing to open their hearts—and, sometimes, their pocketbooks—to those in need. The latest group to benefit from this philanthropic city of ours is the family of the late Sergeant Stephen Liczbinski, who, you might recall, was killed while on duty just a few weeks ago. And funds will be raised in Phillyist's favorite fashion: through our stomachs.
Several Old City restaurants will band together today as "Cooks for Cops," and will be donating 10% of their proceeds for the evening to the Stephen Liczbinski Family Memorial Trust, which was set up to help the fallen sergeant family in their time of need. And it's not just expensive restaurants donating to the fund. There's an opportunity to be charitable at restaurants for every budget. Participating businesses include: Beneluxx Tasting Room, Eulogy Belgian Tavern, Philadelphia Fish & Company, Mexican Post, Karma, Buffalo Billiards, Mad River, Triumph Brewing Company, Cebu, Brownies, Plough and the Stars, Serrano, Sassafras, Penn’s View, Bookbinders, National Mechanics, Nick’s Roast Beef, Positano Coast, Rotten Ralph’s, Triada, Marmont, Anjou, Mizu, Pizzicato, Fork, GiGi, Panini, Lucy’s Hat Shop, Swanky Bubbles, Spasso, Amada, Patou, and Campo’s.
It's an all-day event, so if you work in the area, be sure to patronize one of those locations for lunch. If not, hop on the El after work, get off at Second, and know that some of the money you're spending is going to a worthy cause. It'll make that happy hour beer at Triumph taste even better—and don't even get us started on how much more delicious the mussels at Eulogy will be.
