Curious? The Franklin Sends Flash Mob to Rittenhouse Square This Saturday

flash mob comes to philadelphia philly

Ah, flash mobs. We love them. From massive pillow fights to silent discos, they’re generally outrageous, funny, and tend to be a lot safer than actual mobs.

We’ve got word that a flash mob will be striking Rittenhouse Square this Saturday, May 17th. Fifty people, all donned in black, will arrive at noon, streaming into the park from all corners. They’ll meet up in the middle, turn east, and look up at the sun for five minutes. Afterwards, they’ll disperse, traveling in all directions, never once saying a word.

All of the flash mobbers will be holding a postcard that reads Curious? on them, and each of the fifty will hand one to someone in the park as they leave. No words will be exchanged, except for the occasional “wow, I can’t wait to sell this on eBay” uttered from postcard recipients.

The Curious? project has an official website, full of interesting flash video. You can visit it at www.curioustf.org. The slow motion water balloons are definitely our favorite, but we're not telling you which button (or buttons!) bring them up. You’ll have to find that out for yourself.

The mob is being thrown together by the Franklin and the always creative people at Red Tettemer. Check out Red T invading the Franklin and planting curious things all over in this hilarious YouTube video.

Save for the Anonymous Scientology protests, this is one of the first flash mobs we’ve heard of hitting Philadelphia. Sure, flash mobs aren't supposed to be known ahead of time, but we don’t see any flash mobs lining up to throw subway dance parties in the SEPTA, so let’s take advantage of this, and check it out.
