Phillyist VIP: Meghann Williams

Meghann_Williams_photo.JPGMeghann Williams is an emerging artist—a young, female director who co-founded a theatre company. But more than that, she is known to some as a local expert on Harry Potter and Project Runway. She is a rabid Eagles fan, to the point that she will schedule all rehearsals around Eagles games. She has a deep love for Philadelphia, faults and all. Also, she doesn't think she's very important but she does like to talk about herself.

How long have you lived in Philadelphia and what brought you here?
I've lived in the city for 5 years, but grew up just over the bridge in South Jerz. I went all the way to North Jerz for college and then came back to start working at the Prince Music Theater as their company manager. From there, I worked briefly at the Live Arts/Fringe Fest, and co-founded Flashpoint Theatre Company, where I do most of my work now.

What is your favorite place in the city?
The Italian Market on a busy Saturday morning. Even with the terrifying chickens outside the butcher shop, it's the greatest place to be.

What is the strangest thing that has happened to you in Philadelphia?
I saw a guy audition for a play at the Prince once with "Summer Lovin" from Grease. He sang both the male and female parts—it was awesomely bad.

If you could change one thing about the City of Philadelphia, what would it be?
We would have a Super Bowl ring by now. Oh yeah, and the whole gun crime thing.

Pick one: Rocky Balboa or Benjamin Franklin?
Always Rocky. What other city plays clips from a boxing movie before their football games? That is the greatest thing about Philly.
