Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes
The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

- If you watch TV at all, you've probably seen those rather odd new Coldwell Banker commercials which feature portraits of the company founders talking to each other. Well, as all things must these days, the portraits have a blog, which lately chronicled their visit to Philadelphia. The world is a strange place... (Via Megan)
- Um... what?
- We're a tad excited about Warren Ellis' upcoming steampunk graphic novella, Aetheric Mechanics. If you're excited, too, and want to spread the love, check out the cool teaser widget.
- Spielberg will start shooting a (apparently long-awaited) biopic of Abraham Lincoln in early 2009, after finishing his Tintin movie.
- There's some context to this, but it's really not important: pictures of Megan Fox naked and wet!!! (Via)
- War, Inc. (or, as we like to think of it, Grosse Pointe Blank 2) looks pretty fantastic. Just check out the trailer.
- Game|Life talks GTA IV, and points out the dangers of driving after an extended playing session (we meant to mention in our review that there are similar dangers involved with viewing Speed Racer).
- Game|Life also took a look at a lot of the new WiiWare games; two of the more interesting ones appear to be Defend Your Castle, and LostWinds.
- A new poster is out for City of Ember. We don't remember hearing about this one before, but it's coming in October, it's got a pretty impressive cast (including Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, and Martin Landau, with Tom Hanks producing), and the story sounds really fascinating (the generators in the underground city of Ember are failing, and two teens must race against time to unlock the mystery of the city's existence and help the citizens escape before the lights go out forever).
- In other poster news, we only just heard there was going to be a sequel to Donnie Darko, and already there's a poster, as well as a few more plot details. And, in case you were wondering, no, Richard Kelly (director of the original film) is not involved with this one at all. After having seen Southland Tales, we're pretty sure that's actually a good thing.
- The idea of putting MMO experience on your resume rears its crazy head again. If you're a Chinese goldfarmer who got arrested after ratting out your buddy, we're thinking you should probably leave it off.
- One of the many trailers for The Simpsons Game (the one that parodies Medal of Honor, in fact) won the Best Videogame Trailer of the Year award.
- Yahoo! Games presents the 10 worst game sequels ever. (Via Ross)
- Fraggle Rock is going to become a live-action musical feature film, thanks to the Weinsteins. Woo hoo! Fraggles! Unfortunately, the guy who did the rather lousy Hoodwinked! is directing. Boo.
- My Morning Jacket was on SNL this past weekend, and XPN has the videos.
- Hey, we bet it would be fun to eat out on these plates! Heh heh. (Yeah, that's kind of NSFW.)
- We at Whiz always have space for another amusing episode of Overheard in Philly.
- Pitfall is coming back as an all new game for the Wii. Which is vaguely exciting. But the screenshots leave something to be desired.
- The latest rumors about Guitar Hero IV say it will include drums, vocals, bass, and guitar, as well as the ability to create your own character, and even create your own song tracks (sans vocals). Also, all songs will be master tracks, and four bands are confirmed: Van Halen, The Eagles, Linkin Park, and Sublime.
- A demo of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is on its way. Oh boy!
- Lots of new pics from Quantum of Solace have hit the web.
- MGM has picked up a new comedy project called Hot Tub Time Machine which follows "a group of guys, adults who used to be cads back in their heyday, who, after a night of vodka and Red Bulls in a hot tub, travel back in time and set out to rediscover their 'mojo.'" Huh. That sounds like it could either be hilarious or completely idiotic.
- There are cool pics of Samuel L. Jackson as The Octopus in The Spirit online, as well as some pretty impressive pics of Benicio del Toro as Che Guevara in Steven Soderbergh's two-part biopic.
- If you're interested at all in Twilight, Cinematical has a bunch of updates for you.
- We'd heard about the R2-D2 DVD projector before, but this video detailing all of its features and showing it in action is ridiculously sexy. The R2-D2 wireless webcam is pretty cute, too. (Via)
