Super High Me Screening
You know that movie Super Size Me, where that guy Morgan Spurlock ate McDonald’s every meal for 30 days? People actually paid money to see that. Well, if that’s a movie, I’ve got a movie! I’m going to smoke pot every day for 30 days, and it’s going to be called Super High Me, or Business As Usual… I haven’t decided on a title yet. But guess what? McDonald’s is going to be in my movie too! - Doug Benson, 2006
Doug Benson (Best Week Ever, Last Comic Standing, Marijuana-Logues, Doug Benson's I Love Movies) took a joke from his stand-up act about Morgan Spurlock’s documentary, Super Size Me and made it into his own movie called, wait for it, Super High Me.
The film won’t be released until June, but Doug and the film’s distributors are creating a buzz by letting folks do free screenings around the country.
Call it a grass roots effort.
And Philly’s got it! On Sunday, May 11th at 7PM, the Philly comedy blog ComicVsAudience.com and the Philly Improv Theater will present a FREE screening of Super High Me at The Shubin Theatre (407 Bainbridge Street).
In addition to smoking pot for thirty days, Doug must first go thirty days without smoking marijuana. During his experiment he undertakes a number of tests, both high and sober, with some pretty interesting results.
Like any good "pot doc," the film explores the current situation with medical marijuana in the United States, specifically focusing on the conflict between federal and state law as well as the explosive growth in medical marijuana dispensaries in Los Angeles over the past two years. We also get to hang with Doug as he gets high and talks dope with his comedian friends including Sarah Silverman, Brian Posehn, Bob Odenkirik and Patton Oswalt.
Plus I hear Jeff "The Dude" Dowd, (inspiration for The Big Lebowski) is in it. Cool, man!
Admission is FREE but reservations (two seats max) must be made by emailing boxoffice@phillyimprovtheater.com. Seating is severely limited. Drug use is prohibited at the theater, ya stoner!
