Can't Miss This!

It just may be that this particular Phillyist is going to the sold out Jimmy Eat World show in Atlantic City tonight. And it just may be that you aren't.

Ha!

old theatre seatsTHE ACADEMY OF MUSIC PRESENTS: HAIRSPRAY
If you like musical theater, you know Hairspray. This weekend, you can catch a production over at the Academy of Music, presented by their program entitled Broadway at the Academy. It's a real show, so you'll have to pay for decently good seats. Oh, and it can be a fun date show, too, especially considering that it's in a prime dinner location.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Academy of Music, Broad and Locust Streets (map)
WHEN: 8pm
HOW MUCH: From $25 (bring telescope) to $70 (wiping the sweat of performers from your own brow). Get 'em here.

INDEPENDENCE AFTER HOURS ADVENTURE TOUR
We're not sure how adventurous your night can be when you spend it following around a guy in tights, but this is still something we'd recommend, especially for newcomers. It's nice to know why all those tourists (whose smiling faces and bulging wallets we love) are pressing the worn out button atop their digital cameras with such an alarming frequency as they stumble over the cobblestone awesomeness of Old City.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Independence Living History Center, 115 South 3rd Street (map)
WHEN: 5:30pm
HOW MUCH: $50+. Yeah, but there's no lines, no crowds, nothing but you, living history, and that dude in tights that we mentioned earlier. No tickets online (gasp! from those two point oh folks among us), but email tickets@onceuponanation.org or call (215) 629-4026 to inquire.

STREETLIGHT MANIFESTO AT THE TROC
We've loved them for a long time, but the best part about ska-punk stalwarts Streetlight Manifesto is that Phillyist is 7th on the list of Google search results for them. They're playing at the Trocadero tonight with Dan Potthast (who has a deliciously retro 1.0 web site, complete with that once-ubiquitous page title "Untitled Document") and Zox, who sort of look like painters in the pic on their main page. This show is tonight's winning event. Cheap, sonic and drinkable as long as you don't mind dropping $5 or $6 a beer. It only hurts until you've downed the third one. Trust us.
WHO: Anyone, 21+ to drink.
WHERE: The Troc, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 7pm
HOW MUCH: $17. Get 'em at the door, or online here.
