Yo, Philly in the News

SEPTA

  • We’ve often seen our relationship with SEPTA as a “loveless marriage,” too: The City and our beloved transportation system are promising a more cooperative relationship leading to “a vibrant, clean, safe and efficient transit system.” And they got a bridge they can sell ya, too.
  • Police fear a serial robber who has hit 20 businesses is getting bolder, which may lead the armed bandit to become violent. The description is as vague as usual, but anybody with a lead should call 215-686-TIPS.
  • Police Comish Charles H. Ramsey has reassigned the 135 officers in the Narcotic Strike Force to “more general crime-fighting duties” to combat the “overspecialized” nature of the department and address the shrinking number of sworn officers.
  • “A Municipal Court judge dismissed aggravated-assault charges [yesterday] against four suspended Temple University students accused in the alleged hate-crime beating of a Jewish man near the campus in February and set arraignment for May 20 on the three remaining charges.” The remaining charges are simple assault, ethnic intimidation and terroristic threats.
  • If you’re out and about you may run into Mayor Nutter: his schedule has him bouncing around town to seven different meetings today. As if he didn’t have enough meetings in his office.
