Shavin' Sammy
The Pistons blew out the Sixers last night 98-81, putting Philadelphia at the brink of elimination. But, the big story from the game was Samuel Dalembert’s new coif. Sammy shaved a fresh mohawk before Tuesday’s game, with the initials “SD” on the side. “SD” stands for “Samuel Dalembert” and “strong defense” according to Sixers play-by-play man Marc Zumoff. Sammy’s nemesis Rasheed Wallace went for 19 points, 6 boards and 6 blocks, so Dalembert might just want stick to telling us it's his namesake.
With the new 'hawk, Sammy is an eye patch, studded shoulder pad and a battle-axe short of becoming a post-apocalyptic, Haitian freedom warrior. We hope he ignores the ridicule of the media and other players and keeps the new 'do, so we can add one more ludicrous haircut to the annals of sports history:
Drew Gooden - Last season, the forward sported a reverse soul-patch on the back of his neck, dubbed a “ducktail” by Gooden himself. Apparently, the ducktail was hot back in Oakland in the '80s, where Gooden grew up. So were parachute pants and Tone-Loc; let it go Drew, let it go.
Jeff Reed - You might not have seen this guy's dome because he wears a helmet to work as an NFL kicker. Lucky for us, Reed let it all hang out at a post-game bar, and forgot to wear a shirt. He looks like the bastard child of Wolverine and one of the kids from Growing Up Gotti.
Mike Piazza - While a member of the Mets in 2001, Piazza dyed his locks blonde. The move propelled his status from greatest offensive catcher, to greatest offensive catcher in a boy band.
Dennis Rodman - The king of chameleon-like hair transformations, Rodman wowed us for years with his unique brand of silly dos. Our favorites include the tutti-frutti, the activist and of course, the wedding day.
Andre Agassi - Many think that a hockey player would hold the distinction of greatest mullet ever, but the award actually goes to tennis great Andre Agassi. Agassi’s two-tone lion mane was all business up front and nothing but party in the back. The latter came in handy when it was time to hit the town with Brooke Sields after a Canon Eos Rebel shoot.
