Yo, Philly in the News

  • "A man who was being evicted from his apartment in Yeadon, Delaware County, yesterday pulled a gun and shot the constable who served the eviction notice and the apartment manager, police said. The gunman fled into Southwest Philadelphia and hid in a rowhouse at 1846 Conestoga St, but a host of cops tracked him down and arrested him as he attempted to get away out the back door." The wounded men were listed in critical condition, but their injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
  • "The City of Chester is sponsoring a Health Fair and Fun Day tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at City Hall, 1 W. Fourth St."
  • Senator Arlen Specter will hold a field hearing today starting at 3:15PM at the National Constitution Center about flight scheduling and airspace redesign at Philadelphia International Airport.
  • The Phantoms won the longest game in American Hockey League history early this morning by beating the Albany River Rats, 3-2, in five overtimes. It was the first AHL game ever to reach a fifth overtime.
  • After Philadelphia Safe and Sound's recent announcement of their decision to cease operations on June 30th, Mayor Nutter says the city will work hard to ensure that there is no disruption in services for children. But it is as yet unclear what will take the place of the non-profit organization.
  • University of Pennsylvania scientists are studying ways to perform the popular new cold therapy, therapeutic hypothermia, simply and quickly.
