Can't Miss This!
So, you got out there and voted. The results have come in and, although you may or may not be happy with the outcome, that's no reason to stay at home and pout. So here are a few things to consider doing after your workplace gab-fest regarding those results has concluded.
SILK CITY PRESENTS: PAPAYERA GUAYAVERA CON JUAN(DERFUL) THE ONE
We don't know what it means, either. But we know that it's supposed to mean you get to go learn to dance and celebrate yesterday's exercise of one of the most precious rights we have as Americans. If exercising said right is the only exercise you've had in a while, we can relate. That's why you should get out there and shake what your mama gave ya. There's no cover and dance instruction goes pretty much all night. We think. The point is, every good political action deserves a little dancefloor action. So drink and dance and remember: Vote Phillyist in '08!
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Silk City, Spring Garden, between 4th and 5th Streets (map)
WHEN: From 9pm to 2pa!
HOW MUCH: No cover.
If you don't like to dance, or are one of those "responsible" people who prefers not to "drink during the work week," we'll send you over to the Walnut Street Theatre's Studio 5, where Luna Theater Company is putting on a preview of their production of Line by Israel Horovitz. Saturday marks opening night, but you can get a first-look perspective on this show, over 30 years old and still a crowd pleaser, by attending the preview. The show, directed in this instance by Gregory Scott Campbell, dissects the behavior of several strangers standing in line for something. We don't know what, and we don't need to know. It's not what they're waiting for that is so entertaining, it's how they end up passing the time in bitter competition with one another. Catch this preview and avoid the long lines on opening night, when life just might end up imitating art.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Walnut Street Theater's Studio 5, 8th and Walnut Streets (map)
WHEN: 7pm
HOW MUCH: $15 for "adults," $5 for children under 30. Wow. We've never seen that one before. Get 'em here.
NORTH STAR BAR PRESENTS: TIM AND ERIC'S AWESOME TOUR
More sketch comedy. Because we can't get enough laughter in our dismal, smoggy and meager lifetimes. This time, it's Tim and Eric of Adult Swim fame. They're doing two shows tonight, one for all ages and one for 21+. Check it out.
WHO: All ages at 6pm, 21+ at 9:30pm.
WHERE: North Star Bar, 26th and Poplar Streets (map)
WHEN: 6pm and 9:30pm
HOW MUCH: $12 at the door.
