Can't Miss This!
Local music, a film screening with the director and an open casting call for a scary new reality show with a devilish prize. Tuesday is no longer the plain-Jane it has been wont to, uh, be, in the past. And the price tag is pretty nice, too.
FOOLING APRIL AND WMMR AT DOC WATSON'S PUB
We mentioned Fooling April in our Countdown to 2008 because they're an incredible local band. And the bar tends to get a little crazy when there's a radio station around, so look out for WMMR, too. At 5 beans, this show is a steal. Stick around for labelmates Kingsfoil. Get the album that put Fooling April in our line of sight, In the Now, here.

We like film here at Phillyist, as you may have noticed. Not to mention the fact that one of us in particular lives with two independent filmmakers and is constantly getting a doctor's opinion on the medicine of modern cinema. Maybe that's why we're partial to Paul Shrader's visit to Drexel. He'll be personally screening his film The Comfort of Strangers (featuring performances by Helen Mirren and Christoper Walken), based on the Ian Mcewan book of the same name. A Q&A session will follow.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: Drexel University's Bossone Auditorium, 32nd and Chestnut Streets (map)
WHEN: 7pm
HOW MUCH: Free!
BE IN A REALITY SHOW
So what if it's only the CW? The location is haunted, Sam Raimi is involved, and there is a prize of $66,666 at stake. Check out the details and get those head shots you never thought you'd use out of the shoebox under your bed. You know, the one you scrawled 'some day' on when you were younger. Some day is to-day!
WHO: 21+
WHERE: MarBar, Above the Marathon Grill, 40th and Walnut Streets (map)
WHEN: From 10am to 6pm
HOW MUCH: Fill out the application at lunch and rush over after work for your chance to be a star.
