ArtIST: Nikki Virbitsky

319278284_2a04cbfd0f.jpgPhilly artist Nikki Virbitsky loves color! Her brain farts include paintings, jewelry, sock dogs (!), and yarn. Nikki is a soap enthusiast at Lush by day, a yarn spinner by night, and a teacher at the Fleisher Art Memorial on weekends! She tried to take up knitting a few years back, but found common yarn boring, so she bought herself a wheel and some fiber and got to work. She got so carried away with the spinning that she forgot to work on her knitting. She likes to randomize the yarn by using different fibers, like leather, chenille, or even beads. Nikki says, "I love the idea that a knitter, crocheter, or weaver will sit down to create something with my yarn and will get a surprise every so often when working through the skein." Well, we love it, too.
