Whiz of the Web: Friday Fried Onions
A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

- We still say Hellboy was a very disappointing film. But this new, longer trailer for Hellboy II along with these new pics from the film are starting to make us feel like the sequel is not going to be disappointing at all. It looks like it's a Pan's Labyrinth/Hellboy crossover movie, actually. We can't wait.
- Check out this totally mesmerizing stop-motion animated film. (Via)
- Posters for the upcoming film adaptation of The Spirit have been revealed. They're kind of cool, but also a bit pretentious.
- Dimension Films has acquired the remake rights to Short Circuit. But... why?!
- Heh heh. A review of Outside. (Via)
- Eugene Novikov—our favorite Cinematical writer because he's a Philly boy—informs us that the upcoming film Tenure, which sounds like a romantic comedy and stars Gretchen Mol and Luke Wilson, is filming in our town.
- Ha ha ha! That idiot who compared gaming to smack and teenage pregnancy is getting the full treatment from commenters on Amazon. Sometimes we love the internet.
- Lindsay Lohan wants everyone to know she's a talented, professional actress, so in her next role, as a sex-addicted waitress in an upcoming film called Florence, she's going to get nude. Way to show 'em, Lindsay!
- The Bacon Bra. Yes, it's exactly what you're thinking. And no, we're not sure how to feel about it. On the one hand, it combines two of the things we love the most in the entire world. But on the other hand... ew. (Via Sarah)
- The word is that Matthew McConaughey has been offered the title role in the upcoming film version of Magnum P.I. Three words come to mind: DO NOT WANT.
- The already extremely impressive cast of the John Dillinger movie Public Enemies now also includes Billy Crudup as FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover. Will we get to see Crudup in a dress? Only time will tell.
- We're pretty disappointed with the way Steven Spielberg and George Lucas have treated Frank Darabont. He spent a year working on a screenplay for Indy 4, and apparently it turned out really well and Spielberg loved it, but they ultimately rejected it, only to use elements of it in the final film, and now Darabont is not going to get any credit for his work.
- The Constructicons might be appearing in Transformers 2. But as The Movie Blog reminds us, Michael Bay has already said he'd be leaking fake news to throw everybody off, so there's no telling whether this rumor is true or not.
- Brainiac at the Boston Globe discusses an ancient mystery: is the Black Sabbath song "Iron Man" about the comic book character, or not?
- We don't really get why Hyperion and its sequels are considered sci-fi classics; we found the first book dull and irritating and didn't read any further. But we know they are considered classics, so no doubt many of you geeks out there will be excited to hear that they're on their way to the big screen.
- A new G.I. Joe casting rumor: supposedly Brendan Fraser has a one scene cameo as Gung Ho, and already shot his part, and The Rock has been made an offer to play Hector Delgado (AKA Shipwreck).
- Scott Adams feels he's found a story (and a video) that pretty much sums up humanity—or at least the male part of it.
- A German group of World of Warcraft fans have spent several hundred hours crafting a full-sized, leather and steel replica of an armor set from the game; and apparently they've done this kind of thing already in the past.
- Here's a creepy story: a guy seems to be receiving text messages from his dead wife.
- The Surrogates is sounding like a pretty neat movie. "Based on a graphic novel by Robert Venditti and Brett Weldele, the story is set in the near future, where humans live in isolation and interact vicariously through surrogate robots who are better-looking versions of themselves." It will star Rosamund Pike, Radha Mitchell, and Bruce Willis.
- Simon Pegg has already signed on to be in two more Star Trek films if the first one does well.
- New versions of classic Taito games like Arkanoid and Space Invaders are headed to the Nintendo DS this summer, but sadly the US will not be getting the cool Paddle Controller add-on that's already been released in Japan.
- According to recent research, "people who show signs of being addicted to videogames exhibit many of the same symptoms as those with Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism."
- Clear your schedules for September 16th, because that's the day that Star Wars: The Force Unleashed will come out.
- We seem to have a confirmation that Def Leppard's songs "Photograph," "Animal" and "Rock of Ages" will indeed appear in Guitar Hero IV. Joystiq has even provided YouTube music videos of each song to refresh our memories.
