Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes
The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

- It is, if you hadn't noticed, the first day of April, which is a day on which it is traditional to prank people, lie to them, and just generally wage war on them psychologically and physically. We promise not to do any of these things to you, less because we respect you too much as people, and more because our publisher told us we couldn't. If you're eager to participate but strapped for ideas, Asylum has you covered with a detailed list of office pranks suggested by readers (via). Joystiq found some of the goofy stuff Blizzard is doing in honor of the day. And Cinematical is definitely taking part, as is Google (via Sarah).
- Forbes did a rundown of the healthiest and unhealthiest ballpark snacks, and the panzarottis at our very own Citizens Bank Park made the unhealthy list! Woo hoo! Go us! (Via)
- We posted a while back about the story of the Philly guy who got his stolen Xbox back thanks to a bit of detective work and the help of a lot of people on Digg. Daily News columnist Ronnie Polaneczky has more detailed info, and an interesting update on the story. (Via Ross)
- Blender has named Philadelphia synth rock band Innerpartysystem's video of their SXSW experience The Most Disturbing SXSW Video in Existence. And we have to admit, it is pretty creepy.
- This 8-minute video recapping of the first three seasons of Battlestar Galactica is hilarious—and handy. (Via)
- We thought Jared Padalecki was going to be Jason in the new Friday the 13th movie, but now it sounds like Derek Mears of The Hills Have Eyes 2 will be the guy. Maybe Jared is going to be one of Jason's potential victims instead?
- People, the moment we all feared has come: they're going to make a TV series based on the horrible, horrible Knight Rider TV movie.
- Rope of Silicon has put together a complete list of The Dark Knight viral sites. (Via)
- How to Make a Desktop Viking Catapult. Pretty much speaks for itself, doesn't it? (Via)
- PhotoshopDisasters has now joined the list of blogs we're subscribed to. Hopefully none of our rare dabblings with image editing programs will ever appear on it. (Via)
- Warren Ellis announced yesterday that he's got a graphic novella called Aetheric Mechanics on the way, and we couldn't be more excited about it. (Via)
- Owners of the Xbox 360 version of Rock Band will get "Still Alive," the theme song from Portal, as a free download starting today. Owners of the PS3 version will get the song starting April 17. And who knows if the people who get the Wii version will ever get the song.
- Chris Kohler of Game|Life takes a look at how Wii Fit has affected his exercise habits, now that he's used it for a month.
- Kohler also confessed he's never played a Grand Theft Auto game, so now he's launching a new series called "Confessions of a Grand Theft Auto Virgin" wherein he'll be giving us his impressions on various installments in the series. The first one is pretty funny. Meanwhile, rumor is that GTA IV is coming to the DS. But we think it's probably just a rumor.
- Author Neal Stephenson, beloved of many a geek, has a new book on the way.
- One of the things we didn't mention when we posted about the Superman legal ruling yesterday is what it would mean for future film installments. The answer is, it probably means they're in trouble. (Via)
- Not only is one of the most popular trailers from Grindhouse—Machete—becoming a real movie, it now looks like it'll become a full trilogy.
- Shiny Shiny has a number of amusing gadgets for us, including the Zuse toaster, with which you can burn preset or custom designs into your bread; a T-shirt that provides a soundtrack for your life; and a USB laser beam music system that appears to be a kind of synthesizer that plays music based on how you move your fingers and hands.
- XPN has some free Annuals downloads. Go on, you know you want them.
- Damn! We'd gotten some promising news recently that Stuart Gordon's House of Re-Animator might still be on track to get made, but now it sounds like the project really is dead. That doesn't mean Gordon has nothing lined up, though; in fact, he's just about to start casting an adaptation of H.P. Lovecraft's "Thing on the Doorstep."
