Can't Miss This!

We've been getting the craving for a good solid vacation lately. Haven't you? April Fool's Day descends upon us on the morrow, and we would rather be parasailing. We don't even know how to parasail. But we'd learn, if it meant some time off, sleeping late, swimming, and just generally getting back, even for one moment, that classic elementary school feeling that, for the next few months, we don't have sh%t to do.

Tonight the Gershman Y will host a screening of Richard Schickel's documentary, featuring Spielberg's own take on his career and films. It sounds like this is a pretty down-to-earth documentary on an out-of-this-world director. Obviously, there's a good deal of footage from his films, but there's also a lot of eye-contact-with-the-camera moments when Spielberg addresses his rabid audience directly. That intimacy is what makes this screening more than worth your while.
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: Gershman Y, 401 South Broad Street (map)
WHEN: 7pm
HOW MUCH: $10 + $1.50 processing fee = $11.50. Get 'em here.

ANTON SWORD, CONTROLLED STORMS AND UNIVOX
This show caught our eye because the person promoting it specifically used the phrase "This Monday will not suck!!!!", which really cuts to the core of everything we believe in here at Phillyist. Having said that, we suggest you have a listen for yourself before catching Anton Sword, Controlled Storms and Univox at Tritone tonight. For example, the description of Anton Sword given on his web site is, at times, disturbing, but ultimately pretty compelling. We bet his live show is the same way.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Tritone, 15th and South Streets (map)
WHEN: 10pm
HOW MUCH: $5 at the door.

MOVIE MONDAY AT THE TROC PRESENTS: AMELIE
Okay, so we like Amelie, a lot, and we like Movie Monday at the Troc. But we're just not sure that it's the right venue for a date movie that borders precariously upon being a full-blown, all-out, no-flowers-barred chick flick extravaganza.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Upstairs @ The Trocadero, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 6pm; Movie starts at 8pm
HOW MUCH: $3 to get in; but it goes toward a drink or a snack!
