"X" Marks the Hot

Ballet XWe love, love, love, love BalletX. Sure, we have our favorites amongst their works (at least the ones that we've seen), but even at our least impressed, we still manage to be pretty much blown away by the company's work. It's modern, it's sexy, and above all, it's technically impeccable. This isn't your traditional, Nutcracker/Swan Lake/Giselle ballet: the dancers are on point, sure, but oftentimes, that's where the similarities end.

Even if you're not typically a fan of dance performances, BalletX puts on a show worth seeing. And lucky you, there's an opportunity to catch one such show tonight through Sunday, as the company premieres Right to Spring at the Wilma Theater. The one-hour ballet, conceived and choreographed by Co-Artistic Director Matthew Neenan, is perfectly timely, portraying winter as it gives way to spring, and with weather like we've had today, how can we not tell you to head down to the Wilma to celebrate that?

BalletX: Right to Spring
The Wilma Theater (Broad and Spruce Streets)
March 26-29, 8PM; March 30, 2PM
Tickets: $20–25

I just needed to very strongly agree with this post. BalletX and Miro Dance Theater -- both companies formed by former members of the defunct Phrenic New Ballet -- are two of the most exciting, dynamic, and, yes, sexy dance companies we have in this city right now.
