- We'd always wondered where the mayor gets his chow on. We'd figured he'd do his regular dinners at places like Fountain Restaurant and Lacroix. But no, not our mayor. You see, this Phillyist and Editor Jill both had crappy days on Wednesday and didn't feel like cooking dinner, so we decided to head to Mexican Post. About ten minutes after we sat down, who walks in but the mayor himself?! We were half-tempted to liveblog the mayor's dinner, but decided that would be inappropriate... and probably get us kicked out, if not otherwise detained. Editor Jill had a clear line of sight from where we were sitting to the mayor's table in the corner of the restaurant. So let's get to the important stuff: what did he order? Well, Michael seemed to enjoy his margaritas, and really seemed to enjoy the salt that came with them. For food, it looked like he ordered the tortilla soup and stuffed shrimp to start, and then the waitress told us that he'd ordered the Enchiladas del Mar. There, let it never be said that we never post anything newsworthy.
- Michael's got peeps, and we don't mean the cute little marshmallow bunnies that you see all over the place during the Easter season. No, he's got real peeps, and lots of them, as his staff is the largest mayoral staff in recent memory. And not only does he have peeps, but he pays his peeps well—maybe too well. He's actually paying some of his peeps quite a bit more than the current city charter permits.
- Michael joined Senator Bob Casey and Congresswoman Allyson Schwartz in annnouncing $5.3 million in grants that will be used to build and repair low-income housing units across the city.
- Michael gets a lot of standing ovations, doesn't he? This week's came from the Philadelphia Bar Association, which he addressed on Monday. He actually got through his entire half-hour speech without telling a single lawyer joke. We're not sure if we're impressed, or disappointed.
- It seems difficult to remember sometimes that Michael wasn't the front-runner for mayor way back when that campaign started, and that it took some great advertising and a super-positive message to get him to City Hall. Well, the power of that advertising was acknowledged this week, as American Association of Political Consultants named Michael's ads the best political ads in the entire country last year.
- Michael's support for Hillary Clinton over Barack Obama continues to make many in the Philadelphia media scratch their heads.
