Blogged Around Philly
Here's what went down in the 215 blogs this week, with some unintentional emphasis on cheesesteaks.
Dan Gross at the Daily News Philly Gossip blog spilled the latest pseudo-celebrity gossip: cheesesteak mogul Tony Luke Jr. has landed a starring role as a boxer in upcoming film The Nail, set to start shooting in South Philly May 20. We can't wait to have our streets blocked off for camera crews and craft services.
In other cheesesteak news, NightlifeGay reported on Joey Vento's successful defense of the deplorable "speak English" signs (also mentioned in this morning's news post). We think there are far better cheesesteaks to be had from less xenophobic (and less garish) vendors. But yay, freedom of speech.
The folks at Philadelphia Will Do were relieved that Montgomery County detectives are saving the world from fake Nikes. However, we agree with them that the counterfeiters' choice of Nike models is a bit suspect.
SETPA Watch pondered the online habits of SEPTA employees after a SEPTA dispatcher wrote a letter to the editor in praise of beer. Hey, as long as he's not drinking it while driving a SEPTA bus...
Frank was excited about his nubrella, which might just be the first one in Philly. It looks a little bizarre, but hey, whatever works. Plus, it's hands-free, so you can hold your cheesesteak in one hand and your drink in the other... and they won't get wet.
Finally, The Illadelph showed us the new Yards labels. While we're generally more concerned about what's inside the bottle, we think these look pretty darn cool. See them in person at the opening of the new Yards digs at Delaware and Poplar, slated for April.
