St. Patrick's Day is a day of hard-core drinking, but we often are hard pressed to find inventive green drinks that don’t use (gag) crème de menthe. The following tasty drink, which was the result of staying too late in a bar years ago, was one of the few I tasted that was created in honor of the day and stays respectful to taste buds and—bonus!—no hangovers or green tongues from cheaply dyed liqueur. The name is a double entendre paying homage to the Irish as well as the jigger, a small measure of liquid usually equalling one and a half ounces. Of course, you can make them stronger or weaker to taste.
Ingredients
- 1 ½ ounces Bombay Sapphire gin
- 2/3 ounce Midori
- 1/3 ounce blue curaçao
- Juice of half a lime
- Ginger ale
- Lots of ice
Preparation
Pour all ingredients, except the ginger ale, into a shaker. Shake, then strain into a glass with ice and top with ginger ale. Stir. Garnish with a wedge of lime.
Yield - 1 drink
