Can't Miss This!

Sorry we left you craving more juicy commentary on yesterday's evening preview. We've added more juice to today's listings and we hope the added flavor is subtle but effective, leaving a lingering but not unpleasant aftertaste.

PHILADELPHIA FUTURE SALON
Most of us can agree that we want to be around for as much of the future as we can, but not everyone agrees on what it should like when we get there. Luckily, someone is trying to stay ahead of the game. This event is hosted by law firm Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney. Why? Because they're rich and they should help the future. It's a monthly gathering set up of the Future Salon Network. John Allers of 104.5FM, local podcaster Dave Young, and band manager/new media promoter Jenn Vatza will be in attendance to discuss the distribution of music and podcasts in the new media environment in which we find ourselves on today's internet. Keep an eye on this topic because it is, well, the future of sonic distribution..
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, 1835 Market Street, 14th Floor (map)
WHEN: From 6pm to 8pm
HOW MUCH: $0. That means free.

FREE CONCERT FOR THE 139TH BIRTHDAY OF THE PERIODIC TABLE
If you're scared of the future, fear not! You can always celebrate the past, instead. Millcreek Tavern is toasting to Dmitri Mendeleev and his first presentation of the periodic table to the scientific community. Without it, what other massive and annoyingly intricate (albeit cleverly formulated and immensely useful) table of information would we have had to memorize in high school? Free music comes at you courtesy Jotto, Controlled Storms and Robes.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Millcreek Tavern, 4200 Chester Avenue (map)
WHEN: 9pm
HOW MUCH: No cover. Cheapass beer from 9pm to 11pm. Perfect timing for the music. Coincidence? No, no it isn't. So drink along. Or sing along. F#%k it - do both!

TRIPLE THREAT THURSDAYS AT THE BAYOU
We know Manayunk can be a bit expensive, but there are exceptions to every rule. Thursday nights at the Bayou Bar and Grill qualify for that distinction. $2 bottles - all bottles, domestic and imported. $2 drinks - even those cardiologist-alarming energy drink types. And $2 meatball subs. So, there you have it: beer, booze and balls at the Bayou. All deliciously priced for two hours of most excellent Friday-killing partying. It's a good thing, too - you'll need some of that money you save to get some coffee on the way into work Friday morning.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: The Bayou Bar and Grill, 4245 Main Street (map)
WHEN: From 10pm to 12am.
HOW MUCH: All bottles, all drinks, all meatballs: $2.
