Blogged Around Philly

The new writers just keep on coming – this time, in the form of Stephanie Mannis, a chronic Yelper who won us over when she sent us a bit of marketing collateral she wrote for work about an American answer to the Beatles. Welcome aboard, Stephanie!

internetascable.jpgHere's the buzz in the 215 blogs this week:

Jeff Deeney over at Phawker sang the praises of author Susan Jacoby, who in turn railed against the dumbing down of society and the proliferation of junk thought. If you've spent much time eavesdropping on your fellow SEPTA passengers' cell phone conversations, you probably know what she's talking about. Those who missed her talk at the Free Library can pick up her book, The Age of American Unreason, and get enlightened.

Philly Style's Erin Squitieri warned women about the dangers of dating a stringer. We thought a stringer was a newspaper reporter, but apparently it's a guy who gifts earrings instead of an engagement ring. Ladies—if this happens to you, you can unload the unwanted goods at Ex-Boyfriend Jewelry (courtesy of Awesome).

Illadelph's spies unveiled Stephen Starr's plans for world domination. We have to admit, he's doing a good job at making Atlantic City seem almost classy.

The Philebrity crew helped spread the word about Poop for Peace Day. Mark your calendars for April 18th and go eat some Mexican food or something the night before.

Iggles Blog took a long, hard look at a Harvard student's deconstruction of the Eagles' draft picks, free agency and salary caps. We think they gave him a run for his money. We also think the Harvard student's quotes should've been the ones in crimson. Just sayin'.

Design Philadelphia revealed local retail powerhouse Urban Outfitters' connection to the Philadelphia Flower Show. Who would've thought the company known for turning out cookie cutter hipsters would have one of the most original entries in the show?

Also, everybody in the blogosphere wrote about Beer Week. Seriously, people—go drink a beer. Or 12. Just like you do every other week, but this time you have a good excuse.

And finally, Overheard in Philly leaves us with this quote:

Beautiful Young Girl School Girl: "That test was pretty hard. It was really thinky."

Amen, sister, amen.
