Can't Miss This!

Looks like we're in for some flooding tonight, so bring your galoshes. But don't let the forecast foil your fun. There's plenty to do in Philly tonight, and a good swim is an excellent cardio workout, gets the endorphins pumping, and leaves one feeling fit and invigorated.

Or, you could just get a cab home.

blue guitarTHE PAUL GREEN SCHOOL OF ROCK ALL-STARS WITH SPECIAL GUEST JON ANDERSON FROM YES
You remember Yes, no? Well we do, and the Paul Green School of Rock is yet another group of people, in this case, many too young to drink, who are more talented than us, er, you. We'll admit it, we try to play that thing on the right, but it doesn't always sound the way Yes' Jon Anderson or the School of Rock All-Stars make their instruments sound. Okay fine, it never sounds like that. But that doesn't mean we can't go rock along with them, as long as we stay off the stage and be sure to take a lot of notes.

THEATER AND PHILOSOPHY:
SOCRATES ON THE MODERN STAGE

If you can't handle the rock, perhaps you would rather ponder the many interwoven threads that bind philosophy and theater eternally together into one cohesive mode of thought and expression. Lucky for you, UPenn's Kelly Writers House is presenting a series of lectures called Theorizing (has anyone else noticed that the word "theories" is the word "series," but said with a lisp? No? Just us? Okay then, moving on...). Tonight's lecture is about - well, not to pat ourselves on the back, but that first sentence pretty much summed it up. Writing nerds, although they don't get the same amount of attention as calculator nerds, are a voraciously attentive bunch when you start philosophically dissecting literature, and Socrates is just the coolest EVER (although our love for him is purely Platonic), so it should be an interesting discussion. Sorry, we really get into these lit theory schpiels.

KARAOKE AT NATIONAL MECHANICS IN OLD CITY
We don't want to hear you sing. It's nothing personal. We have a medical condition that prevents us from listening to awful singers. Anyway, Tuesday nights are a good chance for you to put some alcohol in your gullet and embarrass the hell our of yourself have a good time at National Mechanics. Besides having the best bar web site we've seen in a long time, they also rock your ass from 9pm to 1am with karaoke. Also, the pub steak (a mere $10) and hummus plate will keep you full no matter what mode of belly-filling you prefer. This is a Philly bar the way Philly bars should be, and you need to share your yodeling version of "Wind Beneath My Wings" with the world, so what better place than Nat Mechanics?
WHO: 21+
WHERE: National Mechanics, 3rd Street between Market and Chestnut Streets (map)
WHEN: From 9pm to 1am
HOW MUCH: No cover, drink specials. Good food for a few bucks. That's all you need to know.
