Can't Miss This!

Some of you have off today. Others, not so much. In fairness, we will restrict today's list of things you should do to convince yourself that you are engaged and in tune with your city, if not the rest of your life, to things that fall into the "after work" category.

Rifles. Lots of 'em.
LOST BOYS OF SUDAN STORYTELLING AT THE WHITE DOG CAFE
Sudan's "Lost Boys" - children forced to become soldiers in the humanitarian nightmare of war that is going on there - have been all over the news, but how much good it has done them is anyone's guess. Aid and, consequently, hope, comes in fits and spurts. However, there are those who have made it out, and some of them can be found right here in Philadelphia. Two of them, in fact, will be telling their stories tonight at the White Dog Cafe. Their tales, recounted in David Eggers' recent non-fiction compilation What Is the What, are more poignant than any Google News aggregation can sum up. Their new lives here serve to illustrate the hope that can be had by so many others, with the right amount of attention and action.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: The White Dog Cafe, 34th and Sansom Streets (map)
WHEN: 6pm seating for dinner guests (who get first dibs on seats); Storytelling begins at 7:30pm
HOW MUCH: Free (except for food and drink, duh)!

HITMAN: PRE-DVD RELEASE SHOWING AT THE TROCADERO
We know it's sort of cheating to include the Troc's Movie Monday flick every week, which is why we'll exclude them as soon as they schedule a movie it won't be fun to get drunk and obnoxious to with a large crowd of people. This week, it's Hitman, a not-so-good flick based on the excellent video game of the same name. We guarantee it's a hard-drinkin' good time. Just beware of the Tuesday morning hangover.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Upstairs @ The Trocadero, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 6pm; Movie starts at 8pm
HOW MUCH: $3 to get in; but it goes toward a drink or a snack!

ICE SKATING AT THE BLUE CROSS RIVER RINK
This one will please those who have off, without pissing off the frowny-faced workmeisters who will remain firmly chained in the cubicle until 5pm. The extended holiday hours, with three sessions, which we shall dub the Lunchtime Session, the Dinner Session, and Evening Session, make this all-ages activity a good fit into any schedule. And with a forecasted high of about 60, you won't freeze your ass off whilst trying not to fall and break said ass. Also a good idea for the nearly-single idiots who forgot about Valentine's Day, or just did something stupid like took her out for wings and a brewsky. Good one, Captain Moron. Now get out there and skate!
WHO: Anyone!
WHERE: The Blue Cross River Rink, Columbus Boulevard at Market Street (map)
WHEN: 12:30-2:30pm; 3-5:30pm; 6-9pm
HOW MUCH: Admission: $6; Skate Rental: $3; On-site Parking: $8
