
- Sons of Ben and other Philly area soccer fans rejoice: the Inquirer says sources are telling them that "Major League Soccer is moving swiftly toward an agreement that will grant a long-sought expansion team to the Philadelphia region."
- Saint Joe's will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 5PM today to officially open its new Hawks' Landing parking and retail facility at 54th and City Avenue. Hawks' Landing is a $19 million project that features a five-story, 460-space garage, a new and expanded University Bookstore, and a Cosi restaurant underneath.
- "Parent and student groups plan to block traffic at Broad and Spring Garden streets at 4 p.m. today to call on the Philadelphia School District to end contracts with six outside groups that manage nearly 40 city schools."
- Anywhere else in Pennsylvania, policemen can simply write a citation for violators of minor crimes, but currently in Philly, policemen are required to transport offenders to a police station, a process that can sometimes take over an hour. In his recently released crime-fighting strategy, Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has endorsed the idea of changing this process.
- In response to widespread criticism of slow response times by city ambulances, Mayor Nutter announced yesterday that the Fire Department put two new ambulances into round-the-clock service, and more will be added over the next 12 days.
