Drexel had one of those ho-hum weeks. The women (12-10, 7-4) split their games this week. They beat up on Georgia State before falling short against VCU. The men (10-15, 3-10) couldn't keep up with George Mason, but bounced back with a solid win over Towson. Tomorrow night, the Lady Dragons will be promoting breast cancer awareness at their home game against Delaware. The players will be wearing pink headbands and wristbands, and fans who wear pink will get free admission to the game. Then they'll host James Madison on Sunday. The men have a pair of away games this week, at Old Dominion tomorrow night, then at Delaware on Saturday. (Tickets for all home games are available through the Drexel Ticket Office: 1-866-4-DREXEL.)
At La Salle, the men (9-13, 4-5) experienced both sides of blowouts. They whooped George Washington before getting pretty much dismantled by Duquesne. The women (10-14, 2-7) also split their games, albeit not as dramatically. The Explorers lost to UMass, but then managed to snap their five-game losing streak with a win over St. Louis with a major contribution from A-10 Co-Player of the Week Carlene Hightower. On tap for this week, the men host 0-25 N.J.I.T. tonight, then head to St. Joe's on Saturday. The women also get a chance to whoop up on a winless team this week, hosting 0-24 Fordham on Saturday. (Tickets for all home games are available through the La Salle Ticket Office: 215-951-1999.)
Penn did not have itself a good week. The men (8-14, 3-2) went 1-2 this week, beating Princeton last night after losses against Columbia and Cornell. The women (3-17, 0-5) continued to struggle, as they also lost their matchups with Columbia and Cornell. This weekend brings matchups with Brown and Yale for both Penn teams—the men will be at home, the women on the road. (Tickets for all home games available online.)
Penn State laid a big ol' goose-egg this week. The Lady Lions (13-11, 4-8) lost to Michigan and Iowa, while the men (11-12, 3-8) lost their matchup with Michigan. Hopefully the coming week will bring better things for the Lions. The men play host to Illinois on Saturday (tickets). The women are also home for the week, with Minnesota coming to town tomorrow night (tickets) and Michigan State coming on Sunday (tickets).
St. Joe's had a down week, at least compared to last week. The men's (15-7, 6-3) six-game winning streak came to an end as the Hawks lost back-to-back games to Duquesne and #13 Xavier. The women (13-11, 5-4) put up wins against St. Louis and Duquesne before losing to Charlotte. This week, the men are at home for two sold-out matchups: St. Bonaventure tonight, and La Salle Monday. The women have only one game coming up, at Richmond on Saturday.
In Owl country, the Temple women (14-11, 7-2) and men (12-10, 5-3) both split their games this past week. The women beat Charlotte before having their seven-game winning streak snapped against Xavier, with Ashley Morris earning A-10 Co-Player of the Week honors along with La Salle's Carlene Hightower. The men lost to Richmond but then got a big overtime win over UMass. Tonight, the men will host Rhode Island (tickets). Then they'll go on the road to Dayton Saturday. The women have Duquesne coming to town Sunday afternoon (tickets).
The Villanova men (14-9, 4-7) finally managed to get a win after a long drought, beating Seton Hall on Saturday. Of course, then they got edged by #8 Georgetown. The women (14-10, 4-7) got a pair of wins, topping St. John's and Providence. They'll try to keep the roll going at home against Cincinnati on Saturday (tickets) and on the road at South Florida next Tuesday. The men will see if they can put things back together at St. John's on Saturday.
