Whiz of the Web: Tuesday Torpedoes
The shapeless dough of the internet, formed into tasty pellets and baked to perfection, just for you.

- David Murray, who'd been set to star as Destro in the upcoming G.I. Joe movie, apparently had some troubles with his Visa, and couldn't make it into the States in time for the start of shooting. So now Chris Eccleston will get the role. Which is actually pretty cool. Doctor Destro!
- Word came out a while back that the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated series would get a theatrical release in the UK, but there was no word about the US - until now. Star Wars: The Clone Wars will open in North American theaters on August 15th, with the series premiering on Cartoon Network in the fall. If you can't wait that long, USA Today has a first look (via).
- Holy crap, The Grand looks funny. The very idea of Werner Herzog playing a scary German professional poker player is freaking hilarious. And Dennis Farina is comedy gold. Brilliant!
- Official details on the release of the first trailer for Indy 4 have finally been announced: it will first air on ABC's Good Morning America between 8AM and 9AM, and will then be available at the film's official website immediately afterward.
- Joel and Ethan Coen just got hired to direct a film adaptation of Michael Chabon's The Yiddish Policemen's Union for Sony's Columbia Pictures.
- Apple has helped further fuel speculation that it's planning on jumping into the gaming market with both feet by recently filing to extend its trademark to include gaming-related devices.
- Warner Bros. is well into production on a film adaptation of the graphic novel Watchmen, but Twentieth Century Fox has just sued the studio, claiming it holds the exclusive copyrights and contract rights to Watchmen. "Fox seeks to enjoin Warners from going forward with the project." And that's not the only new piece of litigation that could stop production on a geeky film adaptation! The charitable trust of Lord of the Rings creator J.R.R. Tolkien sued New Line Cinema yesterday for allegedly cheating it out of at least $150 million in profits from The Lord of the Rings film trilogy. The Tolkien trust is trying to get New Line's rights terminated, which would bring The Hobbit to a halt.
- Not only has Netflix dumped HD-DVD in favor of Blu-Ray, Best Buy is saying it will recommend Blu-Ray from now on. It's looking more and more like the format war is pretty much over
- The answer to our question yesterday about whether they're really making a video game adaptation of Juno is apparently no.
- A while back we posted a link about the evolution of tech company logos. Now Wired comes along with a detailed, behind-the-scenes look at the evolution of Google's logo. (Via Jill)
- A tip: if you decide to burn down a church, you might want to not post detailed information about how you did it, accompanied by pictures of yourself at the scene of the crime, to GameFAQs.com.
- What would you want to do in RotoRooter's ultimate bathroom? Wii, of course!
- Scott Adams discusses the possibility of death by frozen poop in his usual hilarious fashion.
- Nerd World has posted Part II of their series revealing interesting behind-the-scenes trivia about the nerdiest Simpsons episode ever.
- Jason Tanz at Wired loved Ron Paul's internet-friendly campaign - he just didn't love Ron Paul. "[H]is paleo-libertarian policies make Ayn Rand look like Mother Teresa." Bah ha ha ha!
- This LEGO Predator bust is pretty hot. (Via)
- A homebrew port of Quake II for the DS is now available.
- Bitter about Valentine's Day? Imagine how bitter Luigi is! Actually, you don't have to imagine; you can buy a physical manifestation of his bitterness in the form of an amusing cross stitch on eBay. (Via)
- Want to read a quite possibly not real text description of the Incredible Hulk trailer?
- The question of who will actually direct the upcoming Conan film is still a tangled mess, but it looks like Rob Zombie won't be doing it, thank God, and Neil Marshall might be up for the job now.
- In honor of the upcoming holiday, Cinematical Seven picks the Worst First Dates on Film.
