
- Yesterday the state Gaming Control Board appointed a retired university president as trustee of the Mount Airy Casino Resort, due to the fact that its owner, Louis DeNaples, was charged last week with lying during his application for a state gaming license.
- In the wake of Super Tuesday, the Daily News and the Inquirer both take a look at how the candidates fared and what voter turnout was like in the area. The Daily News also reveals that the workers in the city commissioners office received over 400 calls from people who thought it was Election Day in Philadelphia, and who were trying to figure out why they couldn't find a polling place that was open. Um... wow.
- Yesterday, the leaders of two city unions criticized a recent report by the Pew Charitable Trusts, which said the rising cost of benefits for Philadelphia workers could financially cripple the city.
- Governor Rendell unveiled a $28.3 billion budget yesterday that targets hundreds of millions of dollars for new investment in education, economic development and infrastructure improvements. There's an increase in spending of 4.2 percent, the purpose being to take advantage of a healthy state economy, but still remain cautious in the face of a possible national recession.
- "Starting March 29, US Airways and other U.S. airlines will be players in one of the most significant changes in decades in transatlantic travel, when they are allowed, for the first time, to fly between their hubs and London's Heathrow Airport." That means there will be round-trip daily flights between Philadelphia International Airport and Heathrow.
