We Call Andre the Giant

phit.gifNormally we could start this post with some quip about chasing off the winter doldrums with some laughter. But seeing as how the mercury is riding high today, and should be for a while, we got nothing. That’s why we’re not comedians. Luckily, there are some very talented folks who are, and they are presenting a 5-day smorgasbord of improv and sketch comedy goodness for your gluttonous consumption.

Philly Improv Theater’s Shubin Week starts tonight at, you guessed it, the Shubin Theater. First up is Bedtime Stories: Girls Gone Wild, A Tribute to Alicia Lane featuring Secret Pants, the Sixth Borough, Meg and Rob, and Doogie Horner at 8PM ($5); we hope they work that WWE job offer in there. Tomorrow is fight night, with TheatreSports (DCT North vs. Philly) at 8PM ($5) and a Cagematch with MakeOut Clinic taking on Angry People Building Things at 10PM($5).

Friday and Saturday brings out the Sixth Borough (comprised of people who chose to stay in Philly rather than bolt to NYC or the West Coast, bless them), and the Statues of Liberty (presumably people who bolted) joined by Illegal Refill and Whipsuit! respectively. Shows are at 8 and 10PM ($10 each), with the order flipping each night. And on Sunday, well, we’ve saved the best for last… well, okay, they saved the best for last: Movieoke with The Princess Bride. They’ll provide the scripts and microphones, you provide Inigo’s voice. This one is free, to make the transition into the work week, and out of Shubin Week, a little easier to bear.
