Shades of Fred

So you hate Valentine's Day, eh? Maybe you're single and depressed that you don't have someone to spend the Hallmark Holiday with. Maybe you're single and thrilled that you don't have to waste your time and money on the Hallmark Holiday. Or maybe you're married or dating someone, and you've realized that the whole thing is a sham anyway. Oh wait, there's one more option: You're with someone, and you're into the whole Valentine's Day thing, but your idea of a perfect Valentine's Day is checking out a rock show with your significant other. If you fit into any of the above categories, then read on! (If you don't, meaning that you are actually obligated to do something "sweet" for Valentine's Day, we've got some suggestions.)

Some of you may remember us discussing a really solid show that we caught a few months ago where we discovered two bands that we quickly developed a liking for: Paper Rival (MySpace) and The Color Fred (MySpace). And a couple weeks back, we gave you the opportunity to check out Paper Rival for free. Well, we here at Phillyist like giving, so now we're going to give you the chance to win tickets to see the other band we dug from that concert, The Color Fred.

The Color Fred has been touring in support of his—at least we're pretty sure that it's "his," and not "its," as The Color Fred seems to simply be the band name alter-ego of former Taking Back Sunday guitarist and Coatesville native Fred Mascherino—debut album, Bend to Break. We like the album, and we enjoyed what we saw a few months back enough that we strongly recommend heading to the Electric Factory next Thursday night, assuming you're not tied up with Valentine's Day obligations. And if you'd like to go to the show for free, fill out the form below, because we've got two spots on the guest list that we're giving to one lucky reader. We'll keep this contest open until 5:00 PM on Friday, February 8, and contact the winner over the weekend. Good luck!
