Can't Miss This!

We're kicking off a new regular feature today, and here it is! "Can't Miss This!" should be going up every weekday for the foreseeable future and, as you may have already guessed, it'll feature a handful of events going on that day in and around the city that we think are so cool you should make sure not to miss them. Hope you enjoy it!

Monday is a difficult day for most people. Also, the conclusion of the 2007 football season last night probably made this particular Monday taste even more like Monday than usual.

So Phillyist thought we'd line up a few distractions for you to run off to after work. These won't break the bank either, which makes them perfect for those of you who bet on the Patriots...

TERMINATOR 2: JUDGEMENT DAY
"The Balcony," although a structurally appropriate name, brings a bit too much class to this workingman's movie theater experience. Not that we don't love The Trocadero's Monday Movie Night. Who doesn't like a big crowd of like-minded, socially lubricated movie-goers heckling the massive screen, making out, or smoking that funny-smelling cigarette that you just keep telling yourself is a clove? Tonight's Monday Movie is Terminator 2: Judgement Day. If you haven't seen the first one, go early so you can drink your way into ignorant bliss whilst the Governator defends the Connors and tries to avoid his own termination by a motorcycle-straddling pile of badass metal goo.
WHO: 21+
WHERE: Upstairs @ The Trocadero, 10th and Arch Streets (map)
WHEN: Doors at 6pm; Movie starts at 8pm
HOW MUCH: $3 to get in; but it goes toward a drink or a snack!

CRAIG YAREMKO QUARTET
The Jersey native is a master saxophone player and he's all set to rock out for four hours tonight at Chris's Jazz Cafe, a classy jazz-tastic joint in Center City that won't mangle your wallet. Set apart by its ability to bring in musicians of all ages and origins (and its Best of 2007 win), Chris's is a guaranteed good time, whether you're looking for a date spot or some good tunes to listen to while you drink away your Monday alone (don't be sad – at least Phillyist loves you!).
WHO: 21+ to drink
WHERE: Chris's Jazz Cafe, 14th and Sansom Streets (map)
WHEN: 8pm to 12am
HOW MUCH: $8 cover

ATUL GAWANDE: BETTER: A SURGEON'S NOTES ON PERFORMANCE
Okay, so two of our three suggestions for the night are bars. You could sue us. Or, you could go to the Free Library and attend this lecture by Harvard Professor and best-selling author Atul Gawande, on the intricacies, difficulties and rewards of practicing surgery in today's complex medical environment. It promises to be accessible to the most lay of lay people. Plus, it's good to remember that the Free Library does, in fact, exist, and still provides some of the best lectures in the city.
WHO: Whomever!
WHERE: The Free Library of Philadelphia, 19th and Vine Streets (map)
WHEN: 8pm sharp!
HOW MUCH: $7 for students; $14 for everyone else (We know, we know - the "free" library, right? Well, the library is free. The lectures are not.)
