  • "A weekend Philadelphia police clash with partygoers at a Latina girl's 'Sweet 15' celebration ended with at least 20 people alleging they were beaten by officers, prompting the first major internal investigation of officer misconduct under new Police Commissioner Charles H. Ramsey."
  • A woman 28 weeks pregnant was killed with a single shotgun blast to the back shortly after 1AM this morning on the 4600 block of Griscomb Street. She was found by police in a parked car. Her baby girl, who remains in critical condition, was expected to survive after an emergency delivery at Temple.
  • A flight bound for Philadelphia from Puerto Rico was forced to land in Florida last night when the cockpit filled with smoke. The pilot, the copilot, three flight attendants, and two passengers were taken to a hospital for treatment. Another plane was brought up from Fort Lauderdale to take the the rest of the passengers on to Philadelphia, finally arriving here at 4:48AM.
  • A controversial expansion of the Fox Chase Cancer Center could be a reality soon, as City Councilman Brian J. O'Neill plans to introduce legislation to jump start the project today, legislation that Mayor Nutter has already tentatively agreed to.
  • "A team of lawyers with a record of winning class-action cases sued the Delaware County prison and others across the nation yesterday, charging that thousands of people were illegally strip-searched for minor offenses."
  • A year ago, an 82-year-old great-grandmother was fatally beaten and robbed of $20 in her South Philadelphia home. After examining surveillance video of the suspect, they have finally tracked down an example of the jacket he was wearing. Click through for pictures. It's not much, but it's something.
