Last year's For the Love of Pig Iron benefit show, "PIG FEAT!" was one of the best performances we saw all year. This one-night-only variety show featured drag acts, dancing, music, and the most spirited, competitive, live auction we've ever seen. We knew we'd be back in 2008.
And now, after over a year's wait, For the Love of Pig Iron returns to raise more money for the folks at Pig Iron Theatre Company. This year's theme is "The Swining" (if you couldn't already guess from the poster featured at the right), and promises to be Pig Iron's "first intentionally scary benefit cabaret and auction." Pig Iron artistic director Gabriel Quinn Bauriedel will emcee the evening (Martha Graham Cracker is otherwise committed, but shall be making an appearance later), set to include performances by Ballet X, Air Play Trapeze, James Sugg (who we love), Girls Rock Philly, the cast of The Jersey Devil, and more.
Not frighteningly enticing enough? Don't forget the silent auction featuring awesome items donated by all kinds of folks around the city (last year's prizes ranged from guitar lessons to theatre tickets to tax consulting), three live auction items, and a special drink created by those crazy bartenders at The Troc known only as REDRUM.
Last year's benefit sold out, and we ended up standing in the back behind a couple of very tall people, so we're planning on getting there very early this year – you should probably do the same. But don't, whatever you do, miss this fantastic fundraiser.
