Drexel's Lady Dragons (8-6, 3-0), led by Colonial Athletic Association Player of the Week Narissa Suber, extended their winning streak to seven games, beating Delaware and George Mason on the road. Now they'll look to keep up the winning ways at home, hosting Northeastern tomorrow night and UNC-Wilmington Sunday afternoon. The men (8-9, 1-4), on the other hand, look to stop their three-game skid as they face a couple of their fellow CAA cellar-dwellers at home: Tonight against Georgia State, and Saturday afternoon against Hofstra. (Tickets for all games are available through the Drexel Ticket Office: 1-866-4-DREXEL).
The La Salle men (6-9, 1-1) ended their five-game losing streak on Saturday, beating St. Bonaventure, then followed that up with a win over Penn. Next up for the Explorers is a trip to Richmond, where they'll look to avenge last week's triple-OT loss to the Spiders. The women (8-8, 0-1) host Dayton tonight (tickets) before traveling to winless Fordham on Saturday.
Penn's men (5-10, 0-0) have to be itching to start up Ivy League play. Though even that may not be easy, given that they struggled a bit before outlasting perennial doormat N.J.I.T. on Saturday. And before the Quakers get to league play, they have to finish up their Big 5 obligations. They didn't get those off to a great start, losing to La Salle last night. Next, they'll host St. Joe's in a sold-out matchup. The women's (3-13, 0-1) rough season continued last night with a blowout loss at Seton Hall. (If you're keeping track at home, that makes ten losses in a row for the Quakers.) Fortunately for them, they're now back to the friendly confines of Ivy League play, with road games at Harvard and Dartmouth on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
Out in Happy Valley, Penn State's men's basketball season could turn really ugly, really fast. The Nittany Lions (10-6, 2-2) blew a 16-point lead to Minnesota at home on Saturday, then got trounced by #17 Wisconsin. (And to add injury to insult, they lost Geary Claxton, the Big Ten's second-leading scorer, to a season-ending knee injury.) Next up for the Nittany Lions, at #9 Indiana - not exactly the ideal situation for a team looking to bounce back. The Lady Lions (12-5, 3-2) didn't fare much better against the Gophers, losing by 17. The women continue their Big Ten schedule, hosting Purdue tomorrow night (tickets) and Michigan Sunday afternoon (tickets).
St. Joe's men (9-4, 2-0) have put together a nice little winning streak for themselves. It's up to five games now thanks to this past week's wins over UMass and Richmond. They'll take that streak on the road to play Charlotte tonight before returning to Philadelphia for their sold-out Big 5 matchup against Penn on Saturday. The Hawk women (9-7, 1-0) got their A-10 conference play started off on the right foot with a road win over St. Bonaventure. They'll host Fordham tonight (tickets) in a should-be blowout for the Hawks before going on the road to Xavier on Saturday.
The Temple women (8-10, 1-1) are having one of those up and down seasons. They split their first two conference games, losing at Dayton before beating St. Bonaventure. Next up, #13 George Washington comes to town (tickets). The Owl men (6-8, 0-1) have been kind of ho-hum themselves, losing to #7 Duke and dropping their A-10 conference opener to Charlotte. Next they'll host #20 Xavier (tickets), then go on the road to play St. Louis.
Villanova's men (11-3, 1-2) aren't off to the kind of start they wanted in the Big East after letting Cincinnati rally to beat them in the final minute of Saturday's game. The #25 Wildcats will try to right the ship this week, facing DePaul tonight at home (sold out) and then traveling to Syracuse on Saturday. The Villanova women (11-5, 1-2) beat Georgetown on Saturday and now have three tough conference games in the next week: at #17 Notre Dame tonight, home against Syracuse (tickets) on Saturday, then at Providence next Tuesday.
