I'm back from a two week stint in Texas, full of Mexican food and tequila and happy to be back with this guy and this guy. While I was home, Ross came to visit for a few days, and somehow, we got to talking about comfort food with Mamaist and Papaist. Surprisingly, it was a phrase that Papaist wasn't familiar with.
"You know," I told him, "Foods you like to eat for comfort. When you're down. Or just don't want to go outside."
"Did you make that expression up? I've never heard it before." Papaist isn't dumb, but he is one of those guys who eats to live (rather than living to eat, like I do), so it was little wonder that it wasn't a term he was familiar with.
I explained that the term was not my own, but that honestly, I didn't know where it came from, and then Ross, Mamaist, and I launched into a list of our favorite comfort foods.
"Apple pie!"
"Chicken soup!"
"Sausage and peppers!"
"Tacos!"
"Macaroni and cheese!"
After a few moments of this conversation, we got hungry and headed to the kitchen, leaving Papaist (hopefully) clearer on the subject.
But what about you, readers? What foods would you tell Papaist about if he asked you the same question? Leave us a comment and let us know! (If you really feel like sharing today, you might want to leave a recipe, too – maybe we'll even try it out for a Foodsday Tuesday recipe one of these days...)

I second the mac and cheese, and add brownies.
I'll see your brownies and raise you a big bowl of pasta with meat sauce.
McDonalds cheeseburger and fries. I seriously am not sure I've eaten another meal that I've enjoyed as much as that one.
