- These five minutes of Cloverfield are totally freaking intense. Also check out the trailer for the Spanish horror flick [REC] on the same page - it's another intense hand-held camera thriller.
- Let's talk about today's top ten lists. Nerd World has released The Nerdies, a list of the 10 best nerd things of 2007. The Movie Blog has selected its top 10 horror movies of 2007. Yahoo! has an article up about AFI's selections for this year's top 10 films, as well as their picks for top 10 TV shows (via). Wired has posted their Top 10 Games of 2007 (via). (For more in that vein, check out the AP's picks for the games of the year.) XPN is posting their top album's of the year, one at a time, on their blog; here's 10 and 9. And finally, although it's not quite a top 10, Game|Life has Santa's Top Five Videogame Appearances.
- Warren Ellis has a couple of great links for us today: one about a Russian sect that prays to icons of Putin, and calls him the chosen one, and another about physicists who "have demonstrated how to trap and retrieve light using a soup of micro- and nano-sized magnetic spheres." (Via)

- Fans of late night shows, rejoice! Conan and Leno are going back to work. Of course, their writers are still on strike, so don't expect them to be very funny.
- The Leaky Cauldron interviewed J.K. Rowling on their PotterCast podcast this morning.
- Ouch! A recent survey of 600 PC users reveals that 73% of Americans have never heard of Google Docs, and 94 percent have never tried a web based productivity suite.
- A co-writer of the new Star Trek says there's still a chance Shatner might get an appearance in the movie.
- A researcher "has found that people suffering from chronic pain consistently find more relief from playing videogames than from taking medications."
- The latest trailer for the new Bionic Commando game highlights all the awesomely violent things you can do to your enemies with the help of your bionic arm. Sweet.
- A pic and a video of a portable SNES with a wooden case. Insane!
- Sadly there's no film version of George R.R. Martin's brilliant fantasy epic A Song of Ice and Fire in the works yet, but some fans managed to put together a rather neat little trailer for one using some original material and footage from other movies. Just try to overlook the poor grammar in the credits... (Via)
