A steaming hot pile of our favorite things from around the internets.

- A nineteen-year-old talked about shooting up his school on Xbox Live, a fellow player took him seriously, and now the kid has been arrested, suspended, and is looking at a maximum of one year in jail and a $5,000 fine if convicted.
- Thieves stole the contents of a truck full of copies of the video game Rock Band yesterday while holding the driver at gunpoint. The driver was then released unharmed. The games are worth over $170,000.
- Gotta love Sony: one of the head honchos there is always saying something hilarious. This time chairman Howard Stringer claimed that PS3 games "are infinitely more fun, demanding and exciting" than Wii games. Uh huh. In your mind.
- A recent study apparently shows that human evolution is speeding up: "In the past 5,000 years, genetic change has occurred at a rate roughly 100 times higher than any other period." Yeah, so where are our sixth fingers already? (Via)
- Forbes' list of the richest fictional characters is pretty fun, even if we suspect they pretty much pulled the numbers and rankings out of thin air.
- Putting the beginning of your movie online before it comes out is becoming the thing to do these days. You can now check out the opening credits to Sweeney Todd online (which doesn't sound all that exciting, but they are actually pretty cool), and the opening sequence of a sci-fi thriller called Dante 01, directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet's former partner, Marc Caro (via). This is actually in French with no subtitles, so we don't know what all that narration is about, but the clip certainly looks really cool.
- So is Gerard Butler starring as Sabretooth in Wolverine or not? Rumor said he was, then he said he wasn't when asked about it at a press conference, but now 20th Century Fox says he is.
- A compter disguised as a giant NES controller. Cool.
- In the interests of helping you to make an informed decision on who to vote for in 2008, Joystiq has rounded up some of the front-runners' opinions on the only subject that matters: video games!
- The PS2 is still the most played gaming console.
- If you want a Wii for Christmas but can't seem to find one, you might want to hop the Chinatown bus to NYC and check in at the Nintendo World store in Rockefeller Center. The store apparently gets a new shipment of Wii consoles in every day.
- Scientists have created Daredevil, the mouse without fear! Their work here is finished. Wait a minute, though: are those mice fearless, or are they just on ecstasy?
- XPN found videos for three tracks off of Radiohead's In Rainbows. Exciting!
- There's something really creepy about the fact that the US Army now has a new office specifically to build, deploy, and research video games.
- You can, if you wish to do so, find a new trailer for Uwe Boll's In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale on the film's official website. It still looks pretty bad ("gouge evil from its shell?" Who says that?!), but not quite as completely terrible as it did before. (Via)
- There's a rumor that the producers of the new Conan film want John McTiernan to direct it. That'd be sweet.
- Slant Magazine's 2007 Year in Film takes a more serious, critical look at the year's movies. And then tacks on a bunch of "superlatives" that are just a ton of fun. Check it out. (Via)
- Wow - John Singleton says the rumors are true and he really will be directing the A-Team movie.
- Cinematical is Grinching it up with a list entitled Holiday Movies I Hate (Even Though I Haven't Seen Them). We're surprised to find that we also hate and haven't seen almost every choice on here, except Scrooged.
