- The top-selling video game platform in the US in 2007 was, believe it or not, the Nintendo DS.
- GameStop has opened the first of what it says will be a series of "Tournamet Stores," which are much larger than the average GameStop and feature "a large number of networked game stations, high-end monitors and periodic tournaments for cash and prizes." Unfortunately the first one is way the hell out in San Jose, California, but hopefully we can expect to see one in the Philadelphia area soon.
- Say good-bye to the rest of your free time. Looks like Blizzard is working on "an unannounced Next-Gen MMO."
- You can find a whole bunch of new production stills from Alien vs. Predator: Requiem over on Yahoo! (Via) Meanwhile, the filmmakers say this film will mark the last AVP movie set on Earth, and set up a sequel to take place in space.
- Another brilliant Flickr group: bears in ill-fitting hats. They're illustrations, not photos, but still. (Via)
- Time to pool your money, movie geeks: tomorrow and the next day, Profiles in History will be auctioning off 1,200 movie props and other film items on eBay. Included among the items are a full-scale T-800 endoskeleton from Terminator 2: Judgment Day, the head of a T-Rex from Jurassic Park, Picard's chair, Superman's cape, Neo's coat, Klingon tricorders, and Romulan disruptors. - As part of a general rearrangement of its release schedule, Fox has pushed back the release date of James Cameron's much anticipated 3D sci-fi epic Avatar from Memorial Day to December 18.
- Illustrator Mattias Adolfsson brings us a baroque version of Star Wars. Magnifique! (Via)
- Cinematical has followed up their 25 Hottest of 2007 list with the 25 Lamest of 2007. Most of the picks are good, but... dude. Zombies are never lame. And neither is the Shat. And we're of two minds about Jessica Alba being on there. Sure, she's a sucky actress, but... damn.
- The next big thing in video games? Board games! Uh.. wha?
- GameDaily has an important and insightful look at the history of video games entitled Boobs Through the Years. Well, okay, it's not important or insightful, but it is 12 pictures of virtual boobs. (Via)
- The English language is indeed in its declining phase, as Merriam-Webster has selected "w00t" as the word of the year.
- Cinematical has a couple of interesting tidbits collected here, including the rumor that Will Smith will direct a remake of The Karate Kid starring his son Jaden, with Stephen Chow possibly playing Mr. Miyagi. Also, Justice League's new title might be American Heroes, which would kind of suck.
- Paul Reubens says two long-awaited Pee-Wee Herman movies - one a kid-friendly look at the world of Pee-Wee's Playhouse, but set in the fantasy land around said house, and one a more adult story about Pee-Wee going to Hollywood and becoming a big jerk - are ready to go. Reubens expects to star in both, but says if he can't, he'd like Johnny Depp to play Pee-Wee. He even talked to Depp about it, and Depp said he'd think about it.
