What's new and/or interesting in Philly theaters this weekend.
How to Cook Your Life - A documentary about a combination chef-Zen Buddhist priest (Edward Espe Brown) who's trying to school viewers in the joys of organic cooking. We can't say that sounds particularly exciting to us, but we could see how it might be fun.

Most Likely to Suck: Revolver - If you feel like this Guy Ritchie film looks familiar, and you could swear it already came out a long time ago... well, you're right - sort of. It was originally released in various foreign markets in 2005, but it's only just now getting a limited release in America. The story is a labyrinthine thing involving criminals, gambling, drug deals, and the big con - so, sort of like the Ocean's movies. The cast includes Jason Statham, Ray Liotta, Vincent Pastore, and Andre Benjamin. It sounds like fun, and Guy Ritchie has certainly made some great movies in this genre, but the ads look pretty corny, and as of this writing the freshness rating is at a troublingly low 15%. So we have to sadly recommend that you avoid this one.

What Would Jesus Buy? - Morgan Spurlock has the producer credit on this film which examines the commercialization of Christmas in America by "following Reverend Billy and the Church of Stop Shopping Gospel Choir on a cross-country mission to save Christmas from the Shopocalypse." Um, wow. Sounds pretty interesting. Critics seem a bit split on whether it's a hilarious comedy, an insightful dissection of consumerist culture, or a complete waste of time. But about 70% at least agree that it's good, so it might be worth a trip to the theater.

Atonement - The film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s best-selling 2002 novel, Atonement spans several decades (starting off in 1935 UK) and tells the story of a woman trying to make up for deliberately destroying her sister's love affair with the son of the family's housekeeper. The couple is played by Keira Knightley and James McAvoy, and the film also stars Brenda Blethyn. Most critics agree it's moving, effective, and a fine adaptation of the novel.

Noelle - A callous young priest who travels the country closing down parishes that aren't considered economically viable by the archdioceses arrives at his next target and, not surprisingly, is soon having second thoughts about his task. We smell a Christmas miracle! And something rotten, too - this story is about as fresh as expired milk. The fact that it doesn't have enough reviews to make a freshness rating isn't exactly a good sign, either. Avoid!
