Monday Manners: Here's a Tip

Last Thursday's Happy Hour was fun. Lots and lots of fun. We loved meeting all of you who came. (If you didn't come, trust us: you were really missing out!) We also loved learning that some of you get just as hung up on manners as we do. Case in point: the discussion I had with several of you early in the evening about tipping during an open bar. General consensus: do it.

Sure, the people paying for the open bar should theoretically be tipping the bartenders, according to their arrangements, but still: sometimes, the staff at the bar ends up with the short end of the stick. (For the record, Phillyist made sure that the bartenders would be tipped generously when we arranged the party – but the point still stands.) Bartenders, even more than waiters, really depend on their tips, and if you're drinking for free, you can really spare the dollar per drink that would suffice as tip. It proves that you're not an asshole and that you appreciate the person who's facilitating your inebriation. It also helps to ensure that, in Fight Club language, your drinks will be "clean."

Because let's face it: you'd rather be getting pissed than drinking piss, right?
